American Idol Season 16 finalist Gabby Barrett is returning to the show this season to mentor the Top 14. She’s one of several former contestants who have appeared on Season 20. The competition is narrowing down fast.
Gabby Barrett to Mentor on ‘American Idol’
According to Billboard, Barrett will appear on the show next Sunday, April 24. This Sunday, the Top 20 will be revealed in a three-hour episode. Fans will vote for their favorites, determining 10 contestants to move on. The judges will then choose four more to create the Top 14.
Several former Idol contestants mentored this season’s singers during Hollywood Week’s Genre Challenge, including Lauren Alaina, Ruben Studdard, and Jordin Sparks. During last week’s Top 24 round in Hawaii, Season 10 contestant Jimmie Allen appeared as a mentor.
Barrett has one of the biggest Idol success stories of recent years, having made a name for herself in the country music world despite finishing third place on the show. She recently released a deluxe edition of her album Goldmine, which features her debut single “I Hope.” Barrett also recently co-hosted the ACM Awards with Jimmie Allen and Dolly Parton.

Three More ‘Idol’ Alums to Return This Week
For this Sunday’s Top 20 episode, three former Idol stars will be returning to the stage. Last season’s winner Chayce Beckham will appear, as well as Season 17 runner-up Alejandro Aranda (aka Scarypoolparty), and Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips.
All three singers are set to perform during Sunday night’s new episode. The competition is narrowing down, and the season hasn’t been without its surprising moments. For example, frontrunner Kenedi Anderson recently left the competition due to “personal reasons.”
Be sure to tune in to American Idol Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, and vote for your favorite singers to move on in the competition.
