Derek Hough to Join ‘Extra’ as a New Host Next Month

Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough is getting ready to start a new gig next month. Hough was just announced as a new host of the entertainment news show Extra. He’ll be replacing Billy Bush, who announced his departure earlier this year.
Derek Hough to Join Extra as New Host
According to Deadline, Billy Bush announced in May that he would be leaving Extra after five seasons as a host. Derek Hough is set to join the show in his place for Season 32, starting September 8. The show will also reportedly feature a new set and graphics.
“The ballroom has been my stage, my home, and my launchpad,” Hough said in a statement. “Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of Extra. I’m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter, and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way.”
Deadline also reports that Hough will be taking viewers behind the scenes of projects such as Dancing with the Stars through his role as Extra host, in addition to interviewing celebrities. Current correspondents Mona Kosar Abdi and Terri Seymour will also appear.
Hough called it “an honor to join a show that’s been a cornerstone of entertainment news for over 30 years — and I’m ready to help lead it into a bold, fresh new era for Season 32 and beyond.”

Is Hough Returning to DWTS for Season 34?
Dancing with the Stars fans have no reason to worry about Hough leaving the show due to his new gig at Extra. Deadline makes it clear that Hough will be returning to DWTS as a judge and occasional performer for Season 34 later this year.
In fact, Hough and his sister Julianne (who co-hosts DWTS with Alfonso Ribeiro) recently teamed up to promote the new season on social media. The show’s Instagram account confirmed that both siblings will be back in the ballroom when Season 34 premieres September 16 on ABC and Disney+.
