Demi Lovato and Noah Cyrus Deny Dating Rumors, But Where Did the Rumor Start?

Rumors that Noah Cyrus and former X Factor judge, Demi Lovato are dating have been circulating around the internet since a recent night out at Six Flags. Don’t get too excited, this superstar duo has confirmed that they are just friends. So what lead to such a big rumor?
Any celebrity runs the risk of possible dating rumors when seen with certain people. But it seems that LGBTQ+ celebs seem to get tossed in the rumor-mill more frequently. If a celebrity identifies as queer, it seems that any person they’re seen with is portrayed as a possible romantic partner, what gives?
Demi Lovato recently came out as pansexual, and announced that they are non-binary. With their new identification, are people thirsty to see them in a relationship with just about anyone?
Cyrus and Lovato are Just Friends
On June 29, Lovato and Cyrus attended the Space Jam 2 premiere together. The two were seen holding hands by the public, and the dating rumors have not stopped since. A source even told E! News that: “They are not exclusively dating by any means.”
The source did clarify the two have been friends for a while and enjoy hanging out. But that literally could mean anything. The source did make it clear that the duo does have a possible unexplored connection. In the meantime, Lovato would like to remain single.
“Demi has expressed they want to remain single but is a very open person about seeing where life takes them,” said the source.
This isn’t the first time that dating rumors have sparked between Lovato and Cyrus. Fans were skeptical of Cyrus and Lovato’s relationship after the release of their song “Easy.” “Easy” was released with Lovato’s new album back in April. Dating rumors about the pair have been at full force ever since.
Lovato shared a photo of the two together on instagram from YouTube’s 2021 pride celebration. Some people were suspicious about how Lovato and Cyrus were interacting on social media.
“Thank you @noahcyrus for closing out the night w me for @youtube’s pride 2021 celebration 🎊🙏🏼🙌🏼 I’m so happy we finally got to sing our song together 🥺🥺💞#Easy” said Lovato in the now-deleted Instagram post.
“Thank you for having me ❤️❤️❤️ You were effortlessly perfect and i’m never not in awe of u 😢😢😢” Cyrus responded.
Cyrus then went and made her own post about the event, sharing that she is proud of Lovato, and also proud about who she is before wishing fans a happy pride month.
Celebrities Seen Together Aren’t Always in Romantic Relationships, Why is This Different?
Is it safe to assume that just because you’re seen holding hands with someone who is also queer, that you’re in a relationship? Absolutely not! People hold hands for plenty of reasons, so there’s no reason to assume it’s because they’re dating.
It’s really no different than a heterosexual celebrity being seen with another heterosexual celebrity. Celebrities aren’t always dating who they’re seen with. Yet, they still deal with dating rumors about their friends all the time regardless.
But, where is the line drawn for celebrities who identify within the LGBTQ+ community? There is no line, and that’s the problem.
Just because Noah Cyrus also identifies as pansexual and has had previous celebrity dating rumors, it doesn’t mean she’s dating Demi Lovato. They are adults, they can choose whether they want to be just friends, or not. When/If Lovato and Cyrus decide to exclusively date, they can tell the public if they feel comfortable doing so.
