American Idol Alum Earns Canada’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer

Nicolina, who is from Toronto, competed on Season 20 of American Idol back in 2022, when she was 18. She made it all the way to the Top 5 before being eliminated. Nicolina told the CGT judges that she performed a lot of covers on Idol, but after the show she started to focus more on songwriting.

The 21-year-old singer shared that she struggles with anxiety, and the song she would be singing for her audition was about “everything that I’ve been through.” Nicolina was accompanied on piano as she began to perform her original song.

Host Lindsay Ell commented on the performance from backstage, saying she loved the song, as well as Nicolina’s powerhouse voice. She liked it so much, she went out to the front of the stage while Nicolina was still performing.

While the judges were sharing their thoughts, Ell jumped in to push the Golden Buzzer for Nicolina. She shared that she understands how therapeutic songwriting can be. In addition to going straight through to the next round, Nicolina also won $25,000 from CIBC.

Judges Help Singer Surprise Her Mom

Another notable audition from Tuesday’s show came from singer Brianna Monterosso, who shared that her mom works at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, where CGT auditions are filmed. However, her mom didn’t know she was auditioning for the show.

Judges Shania Twain and Howie Mandel helped Brianna surprise her mom by calling her on FaceTime and inviting her to come watch her daughter’s performance. Mandel let her sit in his chair while Brianna took the stage to perform “You Are the Reason” by Calum Scott.

Brianna’s mom was brought to tears as she saw her daughter perform. The judges praised Brianna’s talent, with Mandel calling her performance “beautiful and captivating.” Twain got emotional as she shared how much she wishes her mom could hear her own songs. Brianna earned four “yes” votes to move on.

Tommy Chong’s Daughter Precious Shares Hilarious Comedy

Tuesday’s new episode of CGT also featured an audition from comedian Precious Chong, whose father is Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame. She joked about being a “nepo baby” and did a bit about playing a game called “Is he old or is he high?” now that her father is 86 years old.

Her father wasn’t there in person, but Precious suggested that they should FaceTime him. Howie Mandel talked to him, sharing that he is now a “huge fan” of his daughter. Precious earned four “yes” votes from the judges to move on.

This week’s show also featured an audition from a dance crew from Vancouver called TwoFourSeven. The group’s school-themed routine featured some seriously impressive acrobatic moves and energetic choreography. They earned four “yes” votes from the judges.
