Catie Turner on 'American Idol'

A video of American Idol judge Katy Perry telling contestants they made it into the Top 24 is going viral, and former contestant Catie Turner has chimed in. The singer recalled the judges using a similar fake-out to give her good news.

Katy Perry’s American Idol Judging Goes Viral

This week marked the Showstoppers round on American Idol Season 21, as the contestants fought for their chance to make it into the Top 24. As we’ve come to expect, the judges tried to fake out several singers by making them think they had been eliminated before revealing the good news.

In one clip, Perry tells Nutsa, “We did not put you in the Top 24… You put yourself in that Top 24.” In another clip, she tells Zachariah Smith, “You may not be going home to flip burgers, but you will be going home… to pack your bag to come back to the Top 24.”

The compilation was posted on TikTok, where commenters are comparing Perry to Tyra Banks on America’s Next Top Model. One user wrote, “Katy Perry as a doctor ‘you did not get cancer, but cancer did get you’.”

Catie Turner Comments on the Viral Video

Catie Turner, who competed on Season 16 of American Idol, retweeted the viral video of Perry and shared a memory from her time on the show. It just proves that the judges have been using this method of deception for years now.

As Turner wrote, “this is like when they told me i wasnt ready for the competition and i wasnt ready to hear that i was going into the top 24 JCKENFKSNFKSNF.”

What do you think about the video of Perry telling contestants they made it through? Should the judges stop trying to fake everyone out and just tell them the good news? Let us know in the comments below.
