‘American Idol’ Winner Laine Hardy Returns with New Music After Arrest
American Idol Season 17 winner Laine Hardy has returned to social media following his arrest in April for allegedly spying on a female college student. The 21-year-old singer posted an Instagram video performing a new original song called “Party I Can Play.”

In the new clip, Hardy sports a baseball cap and strums a guitar. In the video’s caption, Hardy wrote that he’s “been writing some new songs.” He asked fans to tell him what they think of his new song “Party I Can Play.”
Hardy sings in the song’s chorus, “I guess you never know the good times while you got ’em / But you sure do miss ’em when they slip away / I knew then but somehow I’d forgotten / All I need is a pickup where I can set up / And a party that I can play.”
Hardy’s followers shared their excitement to see him back on social media and offered their praise for the song. Others commented on his beard, saying they hope he shaves it. There’s very little mention of the singer’s arrest earlier this year.
The Singer Had An Arrest Warrant Earlier This Year
In April, Hardy was arrested for allegedly planting a listening device in the residence of a female student at Louisiana State University. In a now-deleted Instagram post at the time of his arrest, Hardy asked for privacy. Within the post he wrote, “I have the utmost respect for the law and will assist in their investigation as needed moving forward.”
Following Hardy’s arrest, he reportedly posted $5,000 bond for his release. The situation was pretty awkwardly timed, since he was supposed to appear on American Idol‘s 20 season reunion. The series received backlash for showing pre-recorded footage of Hardy performing with Laci Kaye Booth.
After winning the show in 2019, Hardy released his debut album Here’s to Anyone in 2021. The singer has several shows lined up soon in Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
