‘American Idol’ Renewed for Season 20 on ABC
According to Deadline, the judges and host Ryan Seacrest have yet to officially confirm their return for the next season, but that’s not out of the ordinary. The outlet points out that last year, the show was renewed in May, and the judges officially signed on in August.
American Idol is reportedly averaging 9.4 million viewers this season. Deadline reports that it’s the top show in its time slot, as well as the No. 4 unscripted series this season in terms of total viewers. The current season will come to a close with the finale on May 23.
The show originally premiered in 2002 on FOX, with judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson. The competition produced stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson, before ending in 2016 with Season 15. In 2018, it was brought back by ABC with a new panel of judges.

It’s Been a Roller Coaster of a Season
American Idol Season 19 has been quite the experience. Not only did the show cause controversy by giving one of the losing Season 18 contestants a chance to make a comeback, but two of the current season’s singers dropped out of the competition.
First, singer Wyatt Pike left the show for undisclosed reasons, leading to false rumors about a fight with Bryan. Then this week, Top 5 singer Caleb Kennedy left the show after videos surfaced in which he can be seen sitting beside someone wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood.
Eliminated contestant Cecil Ray also faced abuse allegations from his ex-girlfriend, and was recently arrested for allegedly trying to force his way into her home.
Despite all the drama, we’ve also witnessed some incredible talent this season. We hope next season ups the game even more.
