Reading Time: 3 minutes
Since his accident, Jonathan Goodwin has made sure to stay active on social media. This AGT Extreme danger act’s life flipped upside down when his daredevil act went horribly wrong last month. Here is what’s happened since his accident.
If you’ve kept up with either America’s Got Talent or Britain’s Got Talent, this daredevil’s face might look pretty familiar. Jonathan was recently on both shows. In 2019, he won eighth place on BGT, and then went on to become an AGT semifinalist in 2020. He has also appeared on the 2013 series Dangerman: The Incredible Mr. Goodwin.
Jonathan is now on the upcoming season of America’s Got Talent: Extreme, a spin off of the beloved Got Talent show. This show gives daredevils a larger platform to perform amazing, never before seen acts. The judges for this new series are Simon Cowell, WWE Veteran Nikki Bella, and 17 time X Games medalist Travis Pastrana. The beloved host from AGT, Terry Crews, is also the host of this upcoming series.
Jonathan’s Act That Could Have Cost Him His Life
A month ago, Jonathan was hospitalized following an accident during an AGT: Extreme rehearsal. In the act, Jonathan was contained in a straight jacket and was hung by his feet suspended 70 feet in the air. On each side of him was a car swinging back and forth through the air. The daredevil was supposed to free himself and fall onto an air mattress below, but the stunt went extremely wrong. Instead of missing the cars, Jonathan was crushed between them and the cars exploded.
Jonathan fell to the ground unconscious and onlookers thought he had died. Luckily, multiple reports confirmed that Jonathan was conscious during his airlift to the hospital and was taken straight into surgery. Immediately after the accident, AGT: Extreme paused production. Producers wished the best for both Jonathan and his family.
“In order to focus on the wellbeing of our crew. We will be temporarily pausing production on America’s Got Talent: Extreme and will resume the last few days of filming at a later date,” the producers of the show said. “The health and safety of our cast and crew continue to be our priority.”
On October 20, exactly five days after the incident, Jonathan shared a post to Instagram, confirming that he is alive and on the mend. In an Instagram post, he talked about how his life changed forever, thanked his fans, and also shared that it will be a long road to recovery.
Since then, Jonathan has gone on to share another Instagram post and has been tweeting up a storm. On Twitter, Jonathan shared that he spent a month in a United States hospital, but has since been moved to a hospital in London.
He also shared a picture of him in a hospital room with his fiancé Amanda Abbington. Jonathan and Amanda got engaged just days before this accident.
As of now, NBC says the show will likely air on Sunday nights in mid-season 2022. They have not set a specific date, and production is still paused. The network also launched an investigation to figure out what actually went wrong with this seasoned daredevil’s act.
*Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article stated that Jonathan was “alive and well” and that he “walked away” following surgery. This has been edited to accurately state the he is still recovering. On Nov. 22, Abbington shared the following on social media following our initial report:
“For the record, Jonathan remains in an incredibly serious and life-changing situation. His injuries are significant and grave.”
