‘The Voice’ Recap: Coaches Tease Each Other in Road to the Live Shows Special
Reading Time: 2 minutes
With The Voice Season 21 Knockouts now over, it’s time to start thinking about the Live Playoffs. On Tuesday night, the show aired a special called “The Road to the Live Shows,” which highlighted the best moments of the season so far.
The episode featured commentary from the coaches, as well as some fun unseen moments. Unfortunately, the show has yet to reveal the winner of Monday night’s Comeback Vote to decide which eliminated artist has a chance to return for the live shows. We’ll apparently have to wait until next week to find out the winner.
‘The Voice’ Coaches Call Out Each Other’s Quirks
Tuesday’s special recapped each coach’s team going into the live shows, while taking a closer look at the coach’s funny habits. Take, for example, Kelly Clarkson’s tendency to use the word “navigate.” She says it so much, Ariana Grande and Blake Shelton turned it into a drinking game.
Clarkson and Shelton also have a habit of bickering back and forth during the show, with Grande and John Legend caught in the middle. Once, they were at each other’s throats when neither of them had even turned around for a Blind Audition. “I hate being in the middle of it,” Legend admitted.
Speaking of Legend, the other coaches pointed out how the volume of his voice increases when he’s really enthusiastic about an artist. Shelton joked that he’s deaf in one ear from how loud he can be. Clarkson, meanwhile, poked fun at Legend’s “full-body” arm movements when he’s excited.

Ed Sheeran Says This Coach Cares the Most
Tuesday’s special wasn’t just about the coaches and their artists. Mega Mentor Ed Sheeran also had a few memorable moments, like when he secretly told Grande that she seemed to care the most about her team out of all the coaches. In another clip, he and Legend sang backup for Shadale as the rehearsed her Knockout to “Impossible” by Shontelle.
The episode ended with some funny never-before-seen bloopers from the coaches. In one clip, Sheeran and Legend sing “Achy Blakey Heart,” a spoof version of the Billy Ray Cyrus song inspired by Shelton’s old nickname. Meanwhile, Sheeran bonded with Grande over their love of Pokémon, with Sheeran revealing that his favorite is Squirtle.
The Voice Season 21 Live Playoffs will begin airing next Monday and Tuesday night on NBC.
