Eurovision is a platform for showcasing talent, and many of its performers got their start from other shows such as Got Talent and X Factor. In this article, we embark on a journey to explore the singers who have graced the Eurovision stage following their time on another competition show.
Got Talent, X Factor Singers Who Compete on Eurovision
1. Loreen (Sweden Idol)
Loreen, who represented Sweden in Eurovision, won both in 2012 and 2023 with her hit songs “Euphoria,” and “Tattoo,” respectively. She first gained popularity in her home country after winning the Swedish version of Idol in 2004. Although she didn’t release any music after her Idol win, she continued to work as a songwriter and producer. Her success on Eurovision helped launch her music career, and she went on to release multiple albums and singles.
2. Marco Mengoni (X Factor Italy)
Marco Mengoni represented Italy in Eurovision 2013 and placed seventh with his song “L’essenziale.” Prior to his Eurovision appearance, Mengoni competed on the third series of the Italian version of X Factor in 2009. Within his season, he finished as the runner-up. His participation in X Factor helped him gain a fanbase in his home country, and Eurovision helped him expand his audience globally. Mengoni has since become one of Italy’s most successful pop artists.
3. Noa Kirel (Israel’s Got Talent)
Noa Kirel’s participation in Eurovision 2023 with the song “Unicorn” showcases her talent and recognition on an international platform. Her achievement of reaching the grand final and securing a third-place finish is undoubtedly a significant accomplishment for both herself and Israel. She first appeared on Israel’s Got Talent, serving as one of its main four judges for its first season.
4. Dami Im (The X Factor Australia)
Dami Im represented Australia in Eurovision 2016 and placed second with her song “Sound of Silence.” Prior to her Eurovision appearance, Im competed in the fifth season of the Australian version of The X Factor in 2013, where she won the competition.
5. Lucie Jones (The X Factor UK)
Lucie Jones represented the United Kingdom in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “Never Give Up on You,” finishing with 111 points in fifteenth place. She competed in the sixth series of The X Factor UK in 2009 and finished eighth.
6. Poli Genova (X Factor Bulgaria)
Poli Genova represented Bulgaria in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “One Lifetime Is Not Enough,” her song placed second. After Eurovision, she became a mentor in the first season of X Factor Bulgaria in 2011 and finished in fourth place. She was once again internally selected to represent Bulgaria in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “If Love Was a Crime,” she later went on to place fourth in the final.
7. Ryan O’Shaughnessy (Britain’s Got Talent)
Ryan O’Shaughnessy represented Ireland in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with his song “Together.” He had previously competed on the sixth series of Britain’s Got Talent in 2012 and reached the final finishing in fifth place.
8. Asanda Jezile (Britain’s Got Talent)
Asanda Jezile, a London-born singer, gained recognition as a finalist in the seventh series of BGT, where she unfortunately finished in last place. In 2018, she participated in Eurovision: You Decide, vying for the opportunity to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal, with her song “Legends,” but ultimately lost to SuRie.
