Mother and son duo Shirley and Mark Ballas recently spoke to Good Morning America about their roles judging Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro. The two have had some disagreements behind the judging desk, and the same is apparently true off the show.
DWTS: The Next Pro‘s Shirley, Mark Ballas Tend to Disagree
During their recent appearance on GMA, Shirley and Mark Ballas played a game in which they were asked various questions about themselves. The first question was, “Who is more dramatic?” They both immediately pointed to each other.
However, the pair agreed that Mark takes longer to get ready, while Shirley sends the longer texts. Although Shirley insisted that her son is “more stubborn,” Mark argued that it “depends on the context.” Mark also conceded that his mother would “win a dance-off” between the two of them.
Although they don’t always see eye to eye behind the judges’ table, Shirley called it “a dream” to work with her son, adding that she’s “enjoyed every minute” of sitting on the DWTS: The Next Pro panel with him this season.

The Two Bring Different Experience to the Table
While speaking to GMA, Mark Ballas pointed out that he and his mom approach judging “from different angles,” as she has experience working with dancers and judging Strictly Come Dancing, while he has experience as a pro on DWTS.
“I think it’s cool for the contestants to have a seasoned judge, and then a seasoned pro who’s been in their shoes, so you get two types of advice,” Mark explained. “You get something from a judge’s perspective, and then you get something from an actual competitor’s perspective.”

Shirley called the next few episodes of DWTS: The Next Pro “absolutely scorching,” adding that there will be “twists and turns.” In next week’s episode, the contestants will have to teach an amateur for the first time this season.
