Swedish singer Loreen won her second Eurovision Song Contest over the weekend with her song “Tattoo.” She is the first woman to win the title twice, after previously winning for Sweden back in 2012.

Loreen Wins Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden

On Saturday night, Loreen was declared the winner of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest during the Final in Liverpool, England. The Swedish singer previously won the contest in 2012 with the song “Euphoria.”

This is the second time in Eurovision history that an artist has won the contest twice, after Irish singer Johnny Logan won in 1980 and 1987. Loreen is the first female artist with two wins.

For this year’s performance Loreen wore a skintight outfit and long, claw-like nails while performing the song between two lighted platforms. As she sings on the song’s chorus, “No, I don’t care about them all / ‘Cause all I want is to be loved / And all I care about is you / You’re stuck on me like a tattoo.”

Second place went to Finland’s Käärijä, with their song “Cha Cha Cha.” Meanwhile, Americans on Twitter were fascinated by Austria’s submission, “Who the Hell Is Edgar?” The Edgar of the title refers to Edgar Allan Poe.

Loreen Got Her Start on a Talent Show

Loreen competed in Sweden’s talent show Idol 2004, finishing in fourth place. She released her first single, called “The Snake,” with the band Rob’n’Raz the following year. Loreen went on to work as a TV presenter and produced several reality shows in Sweden.

In 2011, she competed in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen with the song “My Heart Is Refusing Me,” which became a hit in her home country. The next year, she made it to the Eurovision Final with her song “Euphoria.” She won with 372 points.

This year, “Tattoo” won the contest with 583 points. This is Sweden’s seventh Eurovision win. Notably, the Swedish band ABBA won in 1974 with the song “Waterloo.”
