Tate McRae has shared that she avoids looking herself up online, saying it’s her “rule number one.” The 21-year-old singer explained why she thinks Googling yourself can “stunt your creativity” in a new interview.
Tate McRae Has a Rule to Never Google Herself
McRae, who got her start on So You Think You Can Dance, told People that she has a rule to “never search yourself up on the internet,” explaining, “I think the worst place to write or create music from is a place of fear and judgement.”
“It’s human nature to go out and look for bad things, and see what you need to work on, and see what people don’t like about you,” McRae admitted. “And I think honestly, I’ve just been like, ‘I need to get off my phone.’”
The singer shared her belief that she creates her “best stuff” when she’s feeling “confident and ready to try anything and not scared,” adding, “I think freedom is the key to your best work and your best mind, so I try to block out the noise as much as I can.”
Last month, McRae released a new single called “Sports Car,” with an accompanying music video. The track will be featured on her third studio album, So Close to What, along with previous singles “It’s OK I’m OK” and “2 Hands.”
So Close to What will be released on February 21. McRae will be heading out on her Miss Possessive Tour to support the album starting March 18 in Mexico City, with more dates running into September of this year.
McRae’s previous two albums, I Used to Think I Could Fly and Think Later, were released in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Think Later featured the singles “Greedy” and “Exes.”
