Former The Voice UK coach Sir Tom Jones has issued a statement regarding his departure from the series. According to Jones, he “did not want to leave” the show, and the decision to let him go was made by ITV.
Tom Jones Addresses His The Voice UK Exit
Recent reports suggested that longtime The Voice UK coach Tom Jones would be “dropped” from the show’s panel ahead of the 2027 season. An insider later said that ITV was “in talks with him and are hopeful he will return to the series.”
Jones has since issued a statement on social media claiming ITV fired him. As he wrote, “To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience. ITV made this decision — obviously a while ago, and I was just told recently.”
The 86-year-old “It’s Not Unusual” singer has been an on-and-off coach on The Voice UK since its inception in 2012. In his statement, he claimed that the reason he was given for being let go was “because of a financial difficulty with insurance.”
“They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show,” Jones continued, “and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me.”

Jones Was ‘Not Thrilled’ with ITV’s Offer
In his statement, Jones wrote that ITV had offered him “a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start.” Jones said he was “not thrilled” about this prospect.
“So the only thing I know right now,” Jones wrote to close his statement, “is that there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”
Jones has received support from fans online, as his post on X (formerly Twitter) currently has over 50,000 likes. One user responded to the post by writing that ITV’s decision was “blatant ageism.” Another user predicted that the show “will fail miserably” without him.
