Former The Voice coach Shakira had reportedly planned to move to Miami with her two kids after splitting from her longtime partner Gerard Piquè. However, she may remain in Spain for several more months due to her father’s health issues.

Shakira Could Remain in Spain Over Father’s Health

The Daily Mail reported this week that Shakira could stay in Spain for as long as five months, due to her 91-year-old father William Mebarak’s poor health. A journalist for the Catalan newspaper El Periodico shared that Mebarak “wouldn’t be able to cope with the flight” to Miami.

Shakira was expected to move to Miami this month. However, she’s now reportedly considering either March or June, to line up with spring break in the United States and the end of the school year in Spain, respectively.

According to the Daily Mail, the singer’s father was hospitalized last year in Barcelona after suffering a fall. He has since been placed under 24/7 home care, and doctors have advised against him traveling to Miami at this time.

Shakira and Piqué recently settled their child custody agreement, giving the singer full custody of the couple’s two sons, Sasha and Milan.

The Singer Shared a Hopeful New Year’s Message

Shakira recently took to her Instagram account to share a hopeful New Year’s message with her fans in both Spanish and English. The post seemed to hint that she was moving on from her relationship with Piquè, which ended last year after a cheating scandal.

“Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has surgeon’s hands. Even if someone’s betrayed us, we must continue to trust others,” Shakira wrote in her post, adding, “The ones who leave are fewer than the many who stay by our side.”

Shakira and Piquè were together for 11 years. Piquè is a former soccer player from Spain who recently announced his retirement from the sport.
