Former The Voice coach Shakira recently took to Instagram to share a hopeful message for fans to mark New Year’s. The singer hinted that she was moving on from her ex Gerard Piqué following their split last year.

Shakira Reflects on Split from Gerard Piqué

Shakira recently shared a New Year’s message in both Spanish and English on her Instagram page. She started by writing, “Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has surgeon’s hands. Even if someone’s betrayed us, we must continue to trust others.”

She went on to tell followers to “know your worth,” reminding them that “there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference.” The singer added, “The ones who leave are fewer than the many who stay by our side.”

The words could be interpreted as a veiled reference to Shakira’s ex-partner Gerard Piqué, with whom she shares two children. The couple announced their split last year after 11 years together, following reports that Piqué had cheated.

Shakira ended her Instagram message by writing, “Our tears are not in vain, they water the soil our future will spring from and make us more human, so that even while suffering heartache we can continue to love.”

The Couple Reached a Custody Agreement

Late last year, Shakira and Piqué formalized their child custody agreement in a Barcelona court. The agreement gives Shakira full custody of their two sons, Sasha and Milan. In November, it was reported that the singer was moving to Miami with the kids.

“Our sole objective is to provide our children with the utmost security and protection and hope that they can continue with their lives in a safe and calm environment,” the couple said in a statement. “We appreciate that their privacy will be respected.”

In October, Shakira released a music video for her song “Monotonía” that some believe was a reference to her split from Piqué. In the clip, the singer is shot through the chest and spends much of the video walking around with her heart in her hand.
