Dancing With the Stars alum Mel C recently split from her boyfriend of nearly seven years, music producer Joe Marshall. The couple had begun dating in 2015, but The Spice Girl ultimately called it off due to her busy schedule.
Mel C is single, but not quite ready to mingle. She’s ready to spend all of her freetime with her daughter Scarlet, who she shares with her ex Thomas Starr. Since the singer’s split, a source has opened up about her decision to end things after nearly seven years.
“Mel has an incredibly busy career between her book deal, DJ-ing and other plans,” they said. “The little free time she does have is devoted to her daughter Scarlett, and that doesn’t leave much time for a relationship.”
The source also added that the split was mutual for the most part. At this time, “Mel is not afraid to be single if she thinks it’s for the best.” This celebrity is known for keeping her relationship private, so it’s no surprise she hasn’t confirmed the break up publicly.
Mel C, Joe Marshall’s Dating History
Soon after the couple began dating in December 2015, though not much was shared publicly. By 2017, Mel C made Mashall her manager after splitting from her longtime manager Nancy Phillips. In an interview about the managerial position, the singer explained that her beau had her back no matter the situation.
“It’s not a long-term plan but if things work out well, who knows what could happen?” a source said at the time. “It is a huge display of trust from Mel as her singing career is incredibly important to her.”
Since beginning her relationship with Marshall, Mel C has debunked the rumor that he was the reason for her departure from Starr. Instead, the singer noted that her daughter gave her the strength to leave.
“Scarlett has made me braver. She has made me stand up for myself more. I couldn’t have done that without the strength that I got from her,” she said.
Mel C chose to leave Starr because she didn’t want both her and Scarlett to be unhappy. At the time, she explained “leaving her dad was hard but I wasn’t happy and she wasn’t happy, and it wasn’t the environment I wanted my child to grow up in.”
