Former American Idol judge Mariah Carey performed with a special guest over the weekend — her 11-year-old daughter Monroe. Carey shared that it was their first duet together before Monroe showed off a beautiful singing voice.
Mariah Carey Sings with Daughter Monroe
According to Billboard, the duet took place at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Friday night. It was reportedly Carey’s first live show since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Mother and daughter wore coordinating white dresses for the occasion.
Carey and her daughter, whom she shares with The Masked Singer host Nick Cannon, joined forces on a performance of “Away in a Manger.” The singer shared that the day Monroe and her twin brother Moroccan were born was “the greatest gift ever.”
As Carey told the crowd, “This is our first duet.” She added that they’ve “been working on this one for a minute.” The singer showed off some high notes before Monroe started with the lyrics, showing that she apparently takes after her mom with a great voice. The crowd cheered for the performance.
“My daughter, Miss Monroe,” Carey said after the song. Monroe gave her mom a kiss before leaving the stage.
Carey Has a Christmas Special Coming Up
According to Billboard, Friday’s show was the first Merry Christmas to All! Concert that Carey has performed this season. After two shows in Toronto, Carey is headed to New York City’s Madison Square Garden on December 13 and December 16.
Carey also has a concert special called Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All! coming up on Tuesday, December 20. Fans will be able to watch the two-hour event on CBS and Paramount+.
The singer may have failed to trademark the moniker “Queen of Christmas,” but she’s still keeping things festive this holiday season. Last month, she performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, singing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” ahead of Santa Claus.
