Kelly Clarkson Joins Jonas Brothers to Sing ‘Year 3000’

During Clarkson’s interview with the Jonas Brothers, they discussed the group’s first hit, “Year 3000.” They covered the song, originally by a UK band called Busted, on their 2006 album It’s About Time. Notably, the song includes a reference to Clarkson in the lyrics.

Nick Jonas told Clarkson that she was the headliner at one of the first festivals they ever played. He admitted, “For years, as a way to get our foot in the door in interviews, we’d be like, ‘Yeah, we opened for Kelly Clarkson.'”

Obviously Clarkson had to join the group for a rendition of “Year 3000,” so she could sing her own name. Afterward, Clarkson made a reference to a popular moment from The 40-Year-Old Virgin, saying, “That was my personal Steve Carell moment, when I got to yell my name.”

The Brothers Bond Over Being Girl Dads

The brothers also spoke to Clarkson about the fact that all three of them are fathers to daughters. They spoke about how this common experience has influenced their music and allowed them to bond over something special.

“Being a father to girls is so fun,” Joe Jonas said. “It’s a reason to live life to your fullest, and that’s a wonderful, weird thing that we have in common, the fact that we all have girls. It’s kind of crazy.”

He went on to say that three people writing music together can get difficult, but added, “To know that we have kind of a throughline of like, well, we have something in common here… We may not have things in common in relationships, but we have certain things in common in being dads.”

Clarkson went on to join the band for a performance of their song “Little Bird,” which is about parenthood.
