Kelly Clarkson loves performing covers as part of the Kellyoke series on her talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show. Earlier this week, the Voice coach performed a powerhouse Ariana Grande cover.
It’s not the first time Kelly has covered one of Ariana’s songs on her show. Check out the video of her performance below, and read on to find out what fans thought of it.
Kelly wore a printed red dress and black boots for the soulful performance, which featured some moody lighting. She was backed up by her band Y’all, as well as a backup singer. Kelly showed off her incredible vocal range on the song.
Kelly didn’t have a live audience to watch it, but the virtual fans who were listening certainly seemed to enjoy it. Kelly seemed to enjoy it as well, strutting away from the microphone when the song was over.
What Did Fans Think Of The Performance?
Fans shared their love of the performance on YouTube. “I see ari, Kelly in the same title, I clicc clicc clicc and watch,” one commenter wrote. Choreographer Brian Esperon commented that he had requested the song, thanking Kelly for singing it.
Many commenters said Kelly made the song her own, rather than try to one-up Ariana. “I love how no one saying ‘she made it better’ she made it HER OWN,” a fan commented. “Both versions are so different.”
Kelly has also covered Ariana’s song “God Is a Woman” during a concert in 2019. Now all we need is for Kelly and Ariana to perform a duet together. Fingers crossed it happens eventually!
