Katy Perry Called Madison VanDenburg ‘The Next Kelly Clarkson’ — She Lives Up To The Hype With New Song ‘Reason’

Former American Idol contestant Madison VanDenburg is on her way to stardom. Judge Katy Perry compared her to Idol winner Kelly Clarkson during her audition, and even though Madison didn’t win the show, she just released new music.
The 18-year-old has a new song called “Reason,” and it’s just as good as you’d expect from the Season 17 finalist. Give it a listen below, along with footage of Madison in the recording studio.
Madison VanDenburg Releases New Song ‘Reason’
The emotional ballad shows off Madison’s powerhouse voice and incredible range. Commenters were quick to praise the song on YouTube, with one person writing, “Awesome sound!!! This is way better than anything I heard on the radio today!” Another wrote that Madison is “mature well beyond your years.”

Madison said on Instagram that she’s been “working my butt off” and fans can expect a lot more from her in the near future. And if you haven’t already heard it, earlier this year Madison released a song called “What I’m Looking For.”
The music video for the song features Madison’s younger sister Chloe playing her as a child. The track has an upbeat message about Madison following her dreams to become a singer, and leaving home for Los Angeles.
Is Madison The Next Kelly Clarkson?
Madison has been compared to the original Idol winner Kelly Clarkson since her first audition on the show in 2019. She performed “Speechless” by Dan + Shay on the piano, showing off her big, soulful voice.

Katy Perry got goosebumps from the performance, and said Madison could win the whole show. “I think you’re as good as Kelly Clarkson,” she said. “You could be the next Kelly Clarkson. You’re a massive star.”
Luke Bryan agreed. “I’m witnessing the next Kelly Clarkson,” he said, adding that he was “jealous” of her talent. Madison ended up placing third on the show, having performed Kelly Clarkson songs like “Already Gone” and “Breakaway” during the competition.
Madison hasn’t met Kelly yet, but she put the wish out into the universe last year on Twitter when Kelly was starting her talk show. Fingers crossed it happens someday!
