John Legend Releases New Song ‘Dope’
The concept of the song is pretty straightforward, as Legend sings about a “dope” woman in his life. He sings, “She’s so dope / Wanna be her dope fiend / She showed me what dope mean.”
Legend shows off his falsetto at parts, dragging out the word “so.” The beat is sure to have fans dancing along. Later in the song, JID comes in with a rap about “the potent medication prescribed by the prettiest ladies.”
Rolling Stone reports that Legend’s new song was produced by Ian Kirkpatrick and Ryan Tedder, and co-written by Legend, Tedder, JID, and Charlie Puth. Legend said in a statement that he’s “so thrilled to be releasing new music.”
According to the outlet, this is the first single from Legend’s upcoming eighth studio album. There isn’t a title or release date yet, but it will be his first album since 2020’s Bigger Love.

The Singer Is Returning to ‘The Voice’
The Voice recently announced the coaching lineup for the upcoming fall season, and Legend is returning to the spinning red chair, along with longtime coach Blake Shelton. The other chairs will be filled by returning coach Gwen Stefani and new coach Camila Cabello.
Legend has been a coach on the show since Season 16, when he won his first season with singer Maelyn Jarmon. He hasn’t won any seasons since. Could this year mark his second victory, or will one of the other coaches beat him?
The Voice recently moved to a new schedule with only one season per year instead of two. The upcoming Season 22 is expected to premiere this fall, although an exact release date has not been announced yet.
