The time has officially come for The Voice to announce their coaches for the upcoming fall season. After tons of fan speculation, it’s been confirmed that both Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson are not returning to the series. In their place, The Voice welcomes Camila Cabello and Gwen Stefani to the coaching panel.
On May 15, The Voice introduced the coaches of their upcoming season 22 via social media. The celebrity filled video included returning coaches Blake Shelton and John Legend, as well as the newest coaches Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello. Within the announcement video, the coaches were singing the popular TikTok song “Grace Kelly” by MIKA over video chat.
Both of the newest coaches had already been apart of the series in someway ahead of this announcement. This season marks Cabello’s second as part of the series. Last season, she was seen as Team Legend’s celebrity mentor. Stefani on the other hand has been a recurrent coach on seasons seven, nine, 12, 17, and 19.
Even though Stefani has coached on the series prior to season 22, she has only won once with Carter Rubin in 2020. While some fans of the series are happy to see her return, others are criticizing The Voice for not bringing in a new name alongside Cabello.
Kelly Clarkson Departs From The Voice After Eight Consecutive Seasons
Even though Clarkson wasn’t one of the first coaches on the series she quickly became a fan favorite in the past eight seasons. Clarkson was first seen on The Voice as Shelton’s mentor in season two of the series, she later returned as the mega mentor in season 13.
This singer joined the series as a coach in season 14 (2018) and gained her first win with Brynn Cartelli. Following that season, Clarkson went on to win season 15 with Chevel Shepherd, 17 with Jake Hoot, and 21 with Girl Named Tom. The singer has yet to comment on her departure from the series.
Fans of Clarkson took to social media to wish her well on the next chapter in life. The singer previously noted that the change in her career would be due to her desire to spend time with her children. While many are sad to see her go, they also hope this is only a temporary leave.
Fans are also sad to see Grande’s departure from the series. The pop singer joined The Voice in season 21 and is most likely not returning due to her busy schedule. At this time, she is focusing on her role in the upcoming Wicked film adaptation.
