Sam Pounds Delays Release of Liam Payne’s Posthumous Single
Former One Direction star Liam Payne died on October 16 at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Argentina. Before his death, Payne was working on new music with artist Sam Pounds.
Earlier this week, Pounds announced that he intended to release their song “Do No Wrong,” writing in part, “I pray that this will be a blessing to the world like Liam has always dreamed.”
The announcement drew backlash from fans, some of whom accused Pounds of trying to profit off Payne’s death. Pounds quickly changed his mind about the song, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that he was delaying the release.
He added that he would like the proceeds from the song to go to a charity chosen by Payne’s family, “or however they desire.” He wrote that “it’s not time yet” to share the track, adding, “We are all still mourning the passing of Liam and I want the family to morn [sic] in peace and in prayer. We will all wait.”

Pounds Accuses Fans of Bullying Him
After delaying the release of his song with Payne, Pounds shared a long post on X in which he defended himself against the backlash. He wrote of Payne, “Where was everyone at when ‘they’ were bullying him on TikTok & now trying to do the same to me?”
He emphasized that Payne wanted fans to hear the music they were creating, saying the late singer had “so many happy, amazing and optimistic ideas.” He added, “Y’all really tried to turn this beautiful tribute into a ‘money’ thing.”
“Don’t ever disrespect me especially when you don’t know ANYTHING,” Pounds wrote. “Calm down and pray and continue to show love for Liam and get his music to number 1 and comfort the family. Stop feeding negativity RIGHT NOW!”
