Honey Boo Boo to Undergo Weight Loss Surgery After 17th Birthday

Reality star and former The Masked Singer contestant Alana Thompson (aka Honey Boo Boo) plans to undergo weight loss surgery later this year, after she turns 17. Alana’s manager recently broke the news to TMZ.
Honey Boo Boo to Undergo Weight Loss Surgery
Alana’s manager Gina Rodriguez told TMZ she will undergo the surgery in late August in Queens, New York. The procedure will apparently take place after Alana’s 17th birthday, which is August 28.
She’ll reportedly receive a “suture sculpt endoscopic sleeve” from a weight loss doctor named Steven Batash. These procedures can apparently cost as much as $13,000. Alana reportedly wants to get her weight down to 150 pounds from her current 275.
TMZ reports that Alana is doing this for her health, as she’s tried exercise and dieting in the past, but it hasn’t gotten her weight down. Her sister and guardian Lauryn Shannon (aka Pumpkin) has apparently signed off on the procedure.

Boyfriend Dralin Carswell Is Also Getting the Procedure
TMZ also reports that Alana’s boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, is also undergoing the procedure. The couple has raised some eyebrows over their age gap, as Carswell is 21 years old. Alana said last year that Carswell was her only friend.
“To be honest, I do not have many friends. At all,” she told Teen Vogue. “Because I feel like folks are so much like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m friends with Honey Boo Boo.’ I don’t trust nobody really, so I don’t have friends.”
Alana’s mother June Shannon (aka Mama June) commented on her daughter’s relationship with Carswell earlier this year, saying, “She is getting a lot of hate because she’s in an interracial relationship, he is older. At the end of the day, Alana’s not that 6-, 7-year-old child y’all fell in love with 11 years ago.”
Alana and her mother appeared on The Masked Singer Season 6 last year, in the Beach Ball costume.
