Stefani came strutting out like she never left the stage. The performance was even complete with a full outfit change. Stefani started out with a black and silver checkerboard outfit. She stepped off to the side as Saweetie came out onto the stage. Stefani re-entered the stage wearing a bright red leather two-piece outfit. Saweetie looked incredibly gorgeous in a bright blue set as she commanded the stage.
This season Stefani was replaced on the rotating coaching panel by Nick Jonas. She walked away with the win last season with artist Carter Rubin which marked her very first win on the show. This season, Shelton is seeking his eighth win and has two artists left in the competition, Jordan Matthew Young and Cam Anthony.
“Slow Clap” received mixed reviews when it came out with the music video set in a high school. Many called Stefani out for using a high school theme which they felt is outdated. But honestly, anything Stefani does has her own stylish spin on it and it was cool to see her bring back some nostalgia with this music video. This collaboration was the start of a fun new era of new music for her.
“I saw on the internet that Saweetie had posted her listening to my song ‘Luxurious,'” Stefani told Variety. “So then I wrote to the guy helping me find a feature, ‘Oh look, it’s in the air, Saweetie’s listening to my song. He said, ‘Oh, you want her to hop on your song?’ I said, ‘Sure!’ and then literally the next day she posts, ‘I’m going in to work with someone, here’s a clue: she’s iconic.'”
