According to Big Top 40‘s Instagram post about the honor, Sheeran’s “Bad Habits” spent eight weeks at the top of the chart. The track is the lead single off Sheeran’s fifth studio album, titled =. The song also spent eleven weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Bad Habits” is one of three songs by Sheeran to make it into Big Top 40‘s Top 10 songs of the year. His track “Shivers” came in third place, behind Adele’s “Easy on Me.” His holiday duet with Elton John, “Merry Christmas,” rounded out the list at No. 10.
Other songs on the list include “drivers license” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Cold Heart” by Elton John and Dua Lipa. Sheeran and John’s “Merry Christmas” also recently made it to No. 1 on the 2021 Christmas chart.

Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ Broke a Spotify Record
Even Sheeran’s older songs are breaking records this month. The singer recently shared on Instagram that his track “Shape of You” is the first song to hit 3 billion streams on Spotify. Sheeran said the news was “absolutely insane,” adding that he was “really, really chuffed.”
Sheeran also shared that the song wasn’t initially going to be on his album, but Ben Cook at Atlantic Records convinced him to make it the first single alongside “Castle on the Hill,” which Sheeran thought would be bigger. Sheeran admitted that he was wrong, as “Shape of You” blew up.
More recently, the singer is featured on a new remix of “Peru” by Fireboy DML. It doesn’t look like Sheeran is slowing down any time soon.
