Ed Sheeran, Elton John Release New Christmas Song
“So kiss me under the mistletoe / Pour out the wine / Let’s toast and pray for December snow,” Sheeran sings on the new track. “I know there’s been pain this year / But it’s time to let it go / Next year you never know.”
The music video features Sheeran and John in various Christmassy settings, wearing festive outfits. There’s also plenty of holiday magic. At one point, John’s piano moves through the room, and then Sheeran takes flight with a snowman.
The video ends with Sheeran lounging on the piano playing guitar. “Merry Christmas,” reads a message on the screen as the song finishes. “Love, Ed & Elton.”
The musicians are using the song to give back. According to the video’s description, profits from the song during the Christmas period will be donated to both the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

‘Merry Christmas’ Is One of Three Holiday Songs the Artists Wrote
The new song “Merry Christmas” appears on Sheeran’s new album release = (Christmas Edition), which is basically just his = album from earlier this year with the new song added at the beginning. If you can believe it, this is one of three Christmas songs Sheeran and John wrote together.
Sheeran shared this during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show. The singer also shared that he and Elton John speak to each other every day. Sheeran admitted that he’s always been uncertain about recording a Christmas song, even though he loves the holiday. John convinced him to do it.
The singer also couldn’t believe that there wasn’t already a song called “Merry Christmas.” He anticipated that they would have to change the working title, but it ended up being unique already.
