‘DWTS,’ ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Choreographer Dave Scott Dies at 52

Choreographer Dave Scott, who worked on Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, sadly passed away earlier this week at the age of 52. Derek Hough was among the stars who paid tribute to Scott on social media.

On June 16, a post was shared on Scott’s official Instagram account announcing his death, reading in part, “Today we have lost an icon, a legend, a father and a dear friend. The weight of this loss will send ripples through time. But his memory and legacy will continue to live on.”
In lieu of flowers, followers were directed to a GoFundMe campaign to help Scott’s family with memorial arrangements. As of this writing, over $11,000 has been raised. A cause of death for Scott has not been shared.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Scott worked as a choreographer on several popular films, including You Got Served, Step Up 2, and Stomp the Yard. He also choreographed on Dancing with the Stars Season 7 and So You Think You Can Dance from Season 3 on.
Scott was also a dance instructor, serving as the director of the Los Angeles Hip Hop Intensive, in conjunction with the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.

Tributes Poured in for Scott on Social Media
Following the announcement of Scott’s death, tributes poured in from the dance community. That includes DWTS judge and former pro dancer Derek Hough, who spoke about Scott’s legacy on Instagram stories, saying the world “truly lost an icon and a legend.”
“I didn’t know him personally, but he definitely made an impact in my life,” Hough shared, going on to describe “being blown away” by Scott’s choreography for You Got Served. He added that Scott “really, truly inspired an entire generation to get them to dance.”
Legendary choreographer Debbie Allen also paid tribute to Scott on Instagram, calling him “one of the most gifted and influential choreographers and creative directors in the Film, Television, and Hip Hop worlds.”
So You Think You Can Dance star Comfort Fedoke posted that her “heart is heavy,” adding that she felt “beyond blessed to have gotten to know the man who was one of the people that first inspired me to dance.”
