RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 finalist Gottmik successfully changed his driver’s license gender to identify as a male. It is historically difficult for transgender individuals to change their driver’s license gender, but Gottmik just finished the challenging task.
Gottmik Now Identifies as Male on His Drivers License
Many transgender people decide to change their identity documents’ gender markers to reflect their gender identities. Transgender people have the legal right to lawfully alter their driver’s license’s gender in all 50 states. However, the procedure might be difficult. A birth certificate amendment and/or documentation of gender-affirming surgery are required in some states.
Drag Race star Gottmik announced in an Instagram post that he has finished the process and is now a male in his driver’s license. Gottmik also said he changed his name on the license, further adding more requirements to the task.
Fellow drag queens as well as celebrities online showed their support and gave congratulatory messages to Gottmik. Violet Chachki, Jinkx Monsoon, Katy Bähm and many others admired the photo of Gottmik on his license. Gottmik entered the popular reality program RuPaul’s Drag Race as the first openly trans man.
Since then, he has grown to be one of the most recognizable figures in the franchise. Among his numerous recent accomplishments are his appearance on the Vogue cover and his participation in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show.
Gottmik Plans to Return To All Stars in The Future
After finishing third and tied with Rosé in RuPaul’s Drag Race, Gottmik revealed he would “love,” to return to All Stars sometime in the future. When he feels “more established” in other areas of his profession, Gottmik said he would be completely open to making a comeback.
“I loved being on Drag Race, I literally had the best time of my life,” Gottmik said. “It feels like a drag summer camp and I just love that environment and going on something like All Stars would be really fun and, like I said, I’ve grown so much already. So I definitely would love that in the future.”
Given Gottmik’s progress since his appearance on Drag Race, it’s difficult to envision the queen putting his various projects on hold and returning to the big stage anytime soon. Fans of the drag star might have to wait for a bit and tune in to her Instagram for an official announcement.
