Carrie Underwood has said goodbye to the signature light blonde hair she’s rocked since her time competing on American Idol. The singer returned to a color closer to her natural shade, sharing photos of the transformation on Instagram.
Carrie Underwood Returns to Natural Hair Color
Earlier this week, Underwood took to Instagram to share several photos of herself sporting a much darker shade of hair color than fans are used to seeing on her. The singer wrote in the caption that “the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old.”
Underwood added that she “thought it might be time to give it a second chance.” She shouted out Nashville hair stylist Katelin Megert at Parlour 3 for helping her “get back to my roots.” She added that hashtags #NewOldMe and #Bronde.
The comments on Underwood’s Instagram post are full of compliments, including one from fellow country star Miranda Lambert, who wrote, “I love it.” Country legend Randy Travis chimed in to tell Underwood, “Pretty sure you can make any color work.”

Why Hasn’t Underwood Changed Her Look Before?
Back in 2012, Underwood told Refinery29 that she wanted to “do a little more with hair color,” but added that she didn’t “want to shock people” with a transformation, explaining that “if I dyed my hair brown, I don’t want people think I’m turning dark and serious.”
“I wish I had started changing my hair around in the beginning, then it wouldn’t be such a big shock if I did something like that now,” Underwood admitted at the time, adding that she also wished she “could pull off glam, old Hollywood” looks, including red lips.
