Can Bobby Bones Help ‘American Idol’s Ratings?
Yesterday saw celebrity country radio DJ Bobby Bones join American Idol in a mentor role. He basically gave the young singers some advice on how to sell themselves, performing, etc. The episode kind of circled around him. With all his popularity, was he the missing piece in making the show a success.
The ratings for last night were much as they have been for the last few weeks on Sunday night. Idol got a 1.5 share or 7.1 million viewers. That’s a little less than last week but not so much. Where is won the night was with the coveted 18-49 demo, which is the favorite of most advertisers. That means that younger folks are watching American Idol and that might save the show in spite of the fact that it costs a ton of money to make and hasn’t performed like they hoped.
Bones was definitely a breath of fresh air on the show. I think people are getting tired of Katy’s flirting, Lionel Richie’s earnestness, and Luke Bryan’s…er…sitting there and grinning. In fact, wouldn’t it be interesting if they replaced Bryan with Bones? It would certainly be more interesting and it would be nice to have someone who is on the business end of things, like what Simon was in the old days, as opposed to three singers.
OR is it possible that he could replace the embattled Ryan Seacrest who is embroiled in some sexual harassment allegations that he harassed a stylist a few years back. It may get to the point where ABC gets rid of Seacrest and they might decide to bring Bones on to host. This is all speculation, of course, but the fact is that Bobby Bones is the most successful name in country radio and if they want to capture some of that Blake Shelton Voice country magic, that might be a way to do it.
