Blake Shelton is proving once again that he is the king of the entertainment world. The Voice coach is currently working on an exciting new project based on his song “God’s Country.”

Hit Song ‘God’s Country’ Inspires Blake Shelton To Create TV Series

Gary Scott Thompson who wrote The Fast and the Furious franchise is currently working with Blake on the drama slated to air on NBC. The show will be called In God’s Country. The synopsis according to Deadline is “when the patriarch of a hardworking Midwestern farm family dies mysteriously in a car accident, his grown children discover he was keeping a devastating secret they could never have imagined.” It will be executively produced by Blake, Narvel Blackstock, who is Reba McEntire’s ex-husband and Laurie Pozmantier. This is a huge deal for Blake who just celebrated winning Single of the Year at the 2020 ACM Awards for “God’s Country.” This is the song that revamped Blake’s career after he hit a rut after its release in March 2019. The music video for the song currently has over 114 million views on YouTube.

At a press event, The Voice coach said “I heard the song, and it was almost like an awakening. It was like it re-energized me — like, ‘No, I don’t wanna be done with this,’ you know? I wanna keep making records.” He really didn’t know what kind of record he wanted to make but this song really did make a huge impact on his life and steer him back in the right direction. Blake also said the song is about thanking God for creating land.

The Song Also Brought Blake Closer To God

In 2019, when Blake first heard the song “God’s Country,” it really pulled him out of a dark place. He said that he had a “revelation” after hearing it. “It was the most shocking moment I’ve had in my 20 years of doing this,” he said. “I was in a place that I consider to be God’s country doing the thing that makes me feel the most connected to God, which is working on the land. I heard that song, and I had one of those moments that you hear people talk about … where they say they pulled over on the side of the highway and listened. I literally had that moment.”

His relationship with God and his connection to his faith wasn’t always this strong. He and girlfriend Gwen Stefani have been going to church together more frequently. Blake and Gwen became official in 2015 after meeting on The Voice, and Gwen who is very spiritual encouraged him to start attending church more regularly. “I believe in God now more than I ever have in my life,” he said as a result of going to church with Gwen more. “The biggest part of that is just how (Gwen) came into my life and now our relationship. It’s just too weird. If you take God out of it, it doesn’t make sense. If you put God into it, everything that’s happened with us makes sense” Blake said about how his faith has strengthened his relationship with Gwen and influenced the song.
