Country superstar Blake Shelton is the king of The Voice and never fails to top the charts with his anthems. His 2019 hit “God’s Country” was a smash success and led him to be nominated for a Grammy Award. So when rapper Kanye West announced that the title of his upcoming album is “God’s Country,” Blake fans were scratching their heads trying to figure out if this was a case of a copy-cat.
Kanye West’s Album Name Is Also The Name Of Blake Shelton’s Big Hit
For the song that won Blake Shelton the award for Single of the Year at the Country Music Awards, you would think other artists would be familiar with the name. The song “God’s Country” was a huge turning point for Blake’s career. At a press event, he said “I heard the song, and it was almost like an awakening. It was like it re-energized me — like, ‘No, I don’t wanna be done with this,’ you know? ‘I wanna keep making records.” He really didn’t know what kind of record he wanted to make but this song really did make a huge impact on his life and steer him back in the right direction. Blake also said the song is about thanking God for creating land. So for the song to be so sentimental to Blake, it begs the question of what the album title “God’s Country” means to Kanye.
Kanye’s most recent albums “Jesus Is King” and “Jesus Is Born” definitely both have biblical meanings. He even started his own Sunday Service as a place of worship where he often performs. It definitely seems like the meaning of “God’s Country” has similar religious undertones for both men. But, it is quite questionable for Kanye to choose this particular name for his album when The Voice coach has tons of dedicated fans across the world that might not appreciate it.
In a hilarious tweet, someone photoshopped Kanye West’s face on a person’s body while they listen to Blake’s song “God’s Country.” The tweet says “So I heard Kanye is dropping an album called “God’s Country.” Clearly people have noticed that these two hugely successful musicians have works of the same name.
Taking all of this into consideration, both artists make completely different music. Obviously Kanye is a rapper while Blake has dominated the country world for years. So even though they both used the title “God’s Country,” at the end of the day, their music is very different.
Do you think that Kanye is copying Blake with the album title “God’s Country?” Or do you think at this point their music differences will set them apart even if they have music with the same name?
