Pop superstar Ariana Grande surprised fans this week by sharing a never-before-seen video to celebrate the nine-year anniversary of her Christmas pop hit, “Santa Tell Me.” The behind-the-scenes throwback took us back to 2014 when the singer was filming the music video.
Ariana Grande Released a Throwback Video Celebrating “Santa Tell Me”
Earlier this week, Grande reminisced on how her holiday hit came to be and its place in her Christmas catalog. “‘Tis the season!” Grande wrote in the TikTok caption, adding a Christmas tree emoji. “Santa Tell Me almost ten years ago,” she wrote with tearful face emojis.
The video features outtake clips of Grande giggling, while her backup dancers were romping around a snowy set. Grande sports a Santa-worthy red sweater and furry reindeer antlers, matched with her signature sky-high boots.
Other clips show the group decked out in night-before-Christmas pajamas, snuggled up under the covers together as if at a festive slumber party. They’re all laughing and dancing along to the upbeat Christmas pop track.

Released as a stand-alone single in November 2014, “Santa Tell Me” became an instant entry into Grande’s Christmas catalog. The song’s sparkling production, Grande’s breezy vocals, and its catchy chorus make it a quintessential Christmas pop confection. Fans immediately took to the track’s upbeat energy and its storyline, celebrating together with Grande.
“Santa Tell Me” is One of Ariana Grande’s Chart-Topping Songs
Last holiday season, “Santa Tell Me” reached its highest peak ever on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 12. The song first charted in 2014, and landed back on the ranking in 2017, 2018, and 2021. However, it keeps finding new fans and now soundtracks celebrations for countless listeners. Grande seemed overjoyed in her throwback video, reminding us that this Christmas classic has its own special nostalgia now too.
Grande is no stranger to getting fans in the festive spirit come the holidays. She has two Christmas-themed EPs under her belt: Christmas Kisses in 2013, and Christmas & Chill in 2015. The latter brought all original songs like “December,” “Winter Things,” and “True Love.” Grande also famously collaborated on “Oh Santa!””” in 2020 with none other than Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Hudson.
Christmas 2022 will also be extra memorable for the pop sensation and her fans. Grande just announced she’ll be headlining a New Year’s Eve concert in New York City. It will mark her first live show in four years, since wrapping up her Sweetener World Tour in 2019.
