American Idol is returning to Hawaii for Season 20. The show will be filming performances next week at Disney’s Aulani Resort on the island of O’ahu. This is the third time the show has filmed at Aulani since the rebooted seasons kicked off on ABC in 2018.

Contestants who earn a Golden Ticket in the audition round move on to the infamous Hollywood Week. In Seasons 17 and 18, contestants who made it through that stressful phase of the competition were rewarded with a trip to Hawaii. This year’s season is likely to follow the same format.
Disney Parks Blog reports that the show will film a concert on the beach, teasing that contestants will be helped in this round by “celebrity mentors.” As previously reported, the show’s in-house mentor Bobby Bones will not be returning for this season.
The show will film two episodes at Aulani, next Monday and Tuesday, February 14 and 15. Tickets were available for fans who wanted to watch the performances, but those audiences are now full. The show’s ticket page confirms that the Top 24 will be performing at this stage of the competition.

When Does Season 20 Premiere?
Production for Season 20 of American Idol kicked off in Texas last October, with host Ryan Seacrest reuniting with judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. This season marks the show’s 20th anniversary, leading to at least one new twist.
This season, in addition to the traditional Golden Tickets, the judges will be handing out one Platinum Ticket in each city during auditions. According to the season’s trailer, this will send the lucky contestant to Hollywood with “a little shortcut.”
American Idol Season 20 will premiere on Sunday, February 27, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. It will also be available to stream on Hulu.
