American Idol Season 22 returned on Sunday night, as the judges continued to hear auditions from hopeful singers around the country. One contestant impressed them so much that they think she might win the show.
American Idol Judges Award Platinum Ticket to Abi Carter
During Sunday’s episode, 21-year-old Abi Carter auditioned for the judges with a cover of Billie Eilish’s song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack. Abi played the piano as she delivered an emotional performance of the track.
The judges gave Abi a standing ovation for her audition. “We don’t have to vote,” Lionel Richie told her. Katy Perry thanked the young singer “for being an example of singing from your heart.” Luke Bryan said, “That may be the winner of American Idol.”
Richie told Abi’s family that her audition was “the best we’ve ever heard on this show.” Later, as Abi was celebrating her Golden Ticket, the singer learned that the judges had chosen her to receive a Platinum Ticket, which allows her to skip the first round of Hollywood Week.
