American Idol Season 22 returned on Sunday night, as the judges continued to hear auditions from hopeful singers around the country. One contestant impressed them so much that they think she might win the show.

American Idol Judges Award Platinum Ticket to Abi Carter

During Sunday’s episode, 21-year-old Abi Carter auditioned for the judges with a cover of Billie Eilish’s song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack. Abi played the piano as she delivered an emotional performance of the track.

The judges gave Abi a standing ovation for her audition. “We don’t have to vote,” Lionel Richie told her. Katy Perry thanked the young singer “for being an example of singing from your heart.” Luke Bryan said, “That may be the winner of American Idol.”

Richie told Abi’s family that her audition was “the best we’ve ever heard on this show.” Later, as Abi was celebrating her Golden Ticket, the singer learned that the judges had chosen her to receive a Platinum Ticket, which allows her to skip the first round of Hollywood Week.

Who Else Received Tickets on This Week’s Show?

Abi Carter wasn’t the only singer to impress the judges during this week’s new episode. One of the auditioning contestants was Emmy Russell, who is the granddaughter of country icon Loretta Lynn. Emmy performed an original song called “Skinny,” written about her eating disorder.

Sunday’s episode also feature an audition from Abby Blake and her friend Sam Kelly-Cohen (aka Kayko), who accompanied her on the piano. Perry encouraged Sam to audition, and he wowed the judges with an original song called “Time of Your Life.” Both Abby and Sam earned Golden Tickets to Hollywood.

The episode even included a cameo from Season 21 star Colin Stough, who appeared during barber Noah Peters’ audition. Perry challenged Noah to give Colin a haircut. Noah ended up earning a Golden Ticket for his renditions of “I Won’t Let Go” by Rascal Flatts and “Broken Halos” by Chris Stapleton.
