Nightbirde, Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent, is thankful for all of the support she has been getting after announcing her departure from the show. The “It’s OK” singer joined Chris Cuomo on CNN to talk about her ongoing cancer battle. Through it all, she continues to keep a smile on her face and inspire the world.
Nightbirde Gives Cancer Update After Exiting ‘AGT’
Nightbirde first announced she would be exiting AGT in an Instagram post this week. She told fans that her “health has taken a turn for the worse.” The post garnered a tremendous amount of support from AGT viewers, the judges, and other celebrities. Cuomo asked how she has been doing, a question weighing heavily on everyone’s minds.
“Well, to tell you the truth, I’ve been curled up in a ball like little a cocktail shrimp, having an A-plus pity party for myself, because it’s just been a bad, bad month,” she said. “It’s been really, pretty devastating.”
Cuomo mentioned that Nightbirde was told that she needs to take her treatment “100% seriously.” It was one of the factors why she made the decision to leave AGT. Nightbirde was the frontrunner in the competition this season. At the time of her audition, she said she had a 2% chance of survival.
“I’m not a quitter so it was really, really hard for me to say that I couldn’t finish the show,” she admitted. “I got shocking news less than a week ago about cancer regrowth that has taken over my lungs and liver. So my liver right now is mostly cancer.”
She Continues to Write Original Music
Even though she has “more cancer than liver in there right now,” Nightbirde is still looking towards the future. She calls it “rebellious hope.” Her optimism is “not stopping anytime soon.” She has been working on original music since her viral AGT audition aired. The lyrics to one of her knew songs was actually teased in her announcement post.
“There’s a song that I’m working on right now and I wrote a little bit of it in my caption when I had to share this bad news and it’s ‘pretty beat up but I still have dreams,'” she said.
Nightbirde also shared that she believes that the cancer will leave her body sometime soon. When it does, she is “going to write the most amazing record you’ve ever heard in your life.” She also teased that she wants to hit the road and go on tour.
The ‘AGT’ Judges Show Their Support Online
When Nightbirde announced the news that she would no longer be competing this season, the AGT judges showed their support. Her Instagram post received over 32,000 comments from those moved by her story. Fans have donated over $306,000 on her GoFundMe page for treatment. Their goal is to #SeeJaneWin.
“Here’s to planning for a bright future @_nightbirde,” Sofia Vergara posted on her Instagram account. “Your energy, your smile, and your amazing voice will be missed at the #agt live shows, but we’re rooting for you and your big dreams!”
Cowell reportedly called Nightbirde once he heard the news that she was leaving AGT. Sources close to Cowell told The Sun that the pair have stayed close since she auditioned for the show.
Howie Mandel was asked on Twitter about Nightbirde and he wrote, “our hearts and prayers go out to her and her family.” Heidi Klum also posted twice about Nightbirde on her Instagram account.
