Adam Lambert Makes His Debut as New ‘The Voice Australia’ Coach

American Idol Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert recently made his debut as a new coach on The Voice Australia. To open the season premiere, Lambert and his fellow coaches delivered a powerhouse Queen medley.
Adam Lambert Makes Debut on The Voice Australia
The Voice Australia just premiered its 13th season with three new coaches. Joining longtime coach Guy Sebastian are Adam Lambert, LeAnn Rimes, and Kate Miller-Heidke, replacing last season’s coaches Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, and Jessica Mauboy.
The coaches opened Monday’s season premiere with a group performance of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” by Queen. Lambert happens to have toured with Queen for over a decade, so it was a special choice of songs for him.
The coaches stood on raised platforms as they belted out the lyrics while the audience cheered. Then they moved lower to perform “We Are the Champions.” As they hit the final note, the stage was full of pyrotechnics. The coaches embraced each other as the audience applauded.

Lambert Talks About Becoming a Coach
In an interview ahead of the season premiere, Lambert said that he’s “always loved the show,” adding, “I love the fact that our backs are turned before we see the singers on stage. I think it says a lot about honoring talent in a world that is so sort of wrapped up in visuals and the way people look.”
He admitted that he’s “a bit competitive” and likes “a good, healthy game.” However, he’s less focused on winning for himself and “more about winning for a new talent.” He said he gets “really excited about discovering new artists.”
“I really want to push hard, so that somebody’s dream comes true,” Lambert said of his approach to coaching. “I think music is about inspiring. Music is about sharing and making people feel things. It’s not necessarily about winning.”
