On Tuesday night, the reboot of Star Search premiered live on Netflix. The episode featured several performances from acts in a number of categories, from singers to magicians. Anthony Anderson hosted the show, while Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jelly Roll, and Chrissy Teigen sat on the judging panel.
Star Search Premieres with Four Rounds of Competition
Eight performers took the stage during Monday’s Star Search premiere, paired up in four different categories. The judges and viewers at home rated each performance from one to five stars to determine which acts should move on and get one step closer to winning the $500,000 grand prize.
The show started with the Juniors Music category, featuring performances from young singers Eric Adrien Williams and Blair Kudelka. Eric, 11, gave a soulful performance of “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5, while Blair, 10, showed off a country twang on “Blue” by LeAnn Rimes. When the scores were tallied, Eric ended up winning the round with a combined score of 4.08 stars.
In the Dance category, French dance group Ladymetry went up against Los Angeles-based troupe Movement 55. First, Movement 55 delivered an intense routine set to “Flood” by Little Simz. Up next was Ladymetry, showing off symmetry and synchronicity. Movement 55 ended up winning the round with a combined score of 3.6 stars.

Who Else Won Their Rounds During the Premiere?
There were two more rounds of competition during Tuesday’s premiere episode. In the Variety category, two magicians went head-to-head — TJ Salto and Fernando Velasco. TJ had help from judge Chrissy Teigen for his routine, in which he predicted a number calculated by the audience seemingly at random.
Next up, Fernando showed off a fun routine in which he seemed to disappear and reappear on stage, while switching places with his assistant. Ultimately, TJ was the winner of the Variety round, with a combined score of 4.1 stars.
The final round of the night was the Music Group category, featuring performances by the girl group H3RIZON and the R&B group 2BYG. First up, 2BYG delivered a smooth rendition of “It’s Gonna Be Me” by NSYNC. Next up, H3RIZON belted out “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter.
H3RIZON ended up winning the round with a combined score of 3.9 stars. The winners of Tuesday night’s rounds will return in next week’s show. Star Search will be live again on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Netflix with a new group of contestants.
