‘American Idol’ Unveils Celebrity Mentors Ahead of Season Premiere

Prior to the premiere episode of American Idol, the series has already revealed the first two celebrity mentors of the season. Particularly, fans can look forward to seeing how Noah Cyrus and Allen Stone would boost the morale of the series’ contestants.
Noah Cyrus, Allen Stone Serve as Mentors in American Idol
On February 16, the series’ Instagram account surprised fans with the sudden announcement of its celebrity mentors. In its post, Noah Cyrus and Allen Stone can be seen posing with a Minnie Mouse mascot. Another photo also showed the two enjoying a drink at the Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii.
“Big Announcement,” the caption read. “This season’s mentors at Disney Aulani will be Noah Cyrus and Allen Stone‼️ #AmericanIdol.”
Cyrus is best known singer-songwriter in the pop music scene. As younger sister of musician Miley Cyrus, it’s thus no surprise that she possesses an impressive vocal talent. She kicked off her music career in 2016 through the single “Make Me (Cry)” (featuring Labrinth). She later on released several singles and extended plays, until she’s finally put out her debut album, The Hardest Part, back in July 2022. Previously, Cyrus was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy.
Meanwhile, Stone is a self-proclaimed “hippie with soul.” As reflected in his compositions, his musical influence was classic soul and R&B of the ’60s and ’70s. Back in 2011, he independently produced his self-titled debut album. Stone is also not unfamiliar with his name being recognized in the Billboard music charts. He has expounded his style throughout the years, adopting a mix contemporary and ’90s R&B musicality. Overall, Stone managed to put out six albums up to date.
Stone was a Finalist on American Song Contest
For those who may not know, Stone used to be a contestant in the reality singing competition American Song Contest. The soul singer represented that state of Washington at the time and reached the series Finale.
Stone did walk away from the show as the winner. Nonetheless, he was not so engrossed with titles and trophies, but rather by the art and process of making and performing songs.
“I do my best not to get caught up in expectations regarding music or numbers or accolades,” he said. “Because I just find so much more joy in the process of making art, the process of performing and getting to sing.”
Stone had already served as an American Idol mentor six years ago, so he pretty much had a good idea on giving pieces of advice to aspiring artists. Yet, before that, a pool of contestants will first experience the painful yet liberating process of audition and elimination.
American Idol season 21 will premiere at 8pm EST on Sunday, February 19 via ABC. Streaming options online include ABC app and Hulu.
