‘The Masked Singer’ Returns With Thrilling Format Twists

“The magic is back,” according to Executive Producer Craig Plestis as he reveals major format changes of The Masked Singer Season 8. The music reality game show will once again return to the television. This time, with thrilling—and brutal—twists that will leave all viewers tingling for more.
The Masked Singer Season 8 Introduces “King and Queen” Style
For the first time in the series, the game show upgraded its format by launching “King and Queen” style of competition. This refers to abrupt eliminations and double unmaskings for every episode.
Craig Plestis talked to Entertainment Weekly, explaining that if there are three celebrities in an episode, one celebrity will be eliminated right away. Subsequently, the two remaining contestants will proceed to what they term as “Battle Royale.” The losing celebrity will take off their mask, and the last person standing will move forward to the competition.
Plestis stated that there will roughly be three to four singers in each episode. In every week, there will be news masks to appreciate. He further described that this new format will bring a lot of energy to The Masked Singer. The “King and Queen” style will endure for three episodes each until it gets down to just three semifinalists.
Each Episode Will Be Themed
The newest season of The Masked Singer will also explore theme throughout the competition. These themes are anticipated to impact the music, costumes, and set designs. Furthermore, the same will hopefully make the guessing game more exciting.
“We’ve upped the ante a little bit with these themes to make it easier for the home audience to play along,” Plestis teased.
Vegas Night, Comedy Roast, Hall Of Fame, Muppets Night, Andrew Lloyd Webber Night, TV Themes, ’90s Night, Thanksgiving” and Fright Night are some of the official themes to look forward to.
There Will Be Intense Celebrity Cameos
The Masked Singer is still mum on the celebrities that may appear as part of the themed episodes. Nevertheless, Fox verified that popular guest stars swill show up. These include regulars Leslie Jordan and Joel McHale, comedian Jon Lovitz, Andrew Lloyd Webber, The Muppets, and many others.
“Maybe the show will open up with a special guest artist who will be from that era or from that particular theme.” Plestis said. “A lot of it feels like adding a little bit of a variety show mixed into our original format, which is fantastic.”
The viewers are yet to be surprised because the massive studio audience members “literally went crazy” for a certain G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) guest star. Clue packages will also return except first impression guesses and Golden Ear Trophy competition.
“We have some of the most beloved celebrities and individuals across America and the world coming to our stage,” Plestis laughed.
Fans cannot wait to see what the next season of The Masked Singer Season 8 brings to FOX this fall. The show premieres on Wednesday, September 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
