The Masked Singer Season 8 is fast approaching, and we’re learning more and more about what we can expect from the new competition. That includes a change in format that will see two contestants unmasked per episode.

‘The Masked Singer’ Announces Format Changes

The Masked Singer executive producer Craig Plestis recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what fans can expect from Season 8 of the show. That includes a new format that’s being described as “King and Queen of The Masked Singer.”

“So there’s the [first] three episodes, we get a king or queen. We do another three episodes, we get another king or queen,” Plestis explained. “Another three episodes, you get another king or queen. So that’s how we get to our three finalists for the semifinals.”

The number of contestants in each episode will apparently vary “between four to three singers.” But fans can expect two unmaskings per episode. In an episode with three contestants, for example, one will be eliminated in the middle of the show, and the remaining contestants will duke it out in a “Battle Royale,” ending in another unmasking.

This season will also feature themed episodes and celebrity guests including past contestants Donny Osmond and Tori Spelling. Judges Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger will also take the stage to perform again this season.

The Tom Brady Rumors Continue This Season

One of the biggest talking points ahead of the new season of The Masked Singer is whether or not NFL star Tom Brady will appear as a contestant. The show itself has added fuel to the fire, recently sharing a video of judge Ken Jeong guessing that Brady is under the Hummingbird costume.

Plestis told EW that one of this year’s contestants is indeed a G.O.A.T. (or greatest of all time), adding that the show’s audience “literally went crazy for” them. The publication also teased that Season 8 will feature an actual goat delivering clues.

The new season will premiere on Wednesday, September 21, at 8/7c on FOX.
