The cover of “Run” by Snow Patrol was recorded to benefit the charities Together For Short Lives and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, which support children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions in the UK.
Simon Cowell Breaks Down Crying On ‘X Factor: Celebrity’
X Factor showed an emotional video of the 13 finalists (including winner Megan McKenna) performing the song. You can download the track here. All proceeds will go to the aforementioned charities.
After the video, host Dermot O’Leary asks Simon Cowell to share his thoughts, explaining that the charities are “very close to your heart.” Simon was unable to speak, instead breaking down in tears.
Why Was Simon So Emotional Over The Song?
As The Mirror explains, Simon is Vice President of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Seeing children from Demelza Hospice in the video reportedly made him emotional because, according to a source, “has a personal connection with them after visiting the hospice several times recently.”
Simon apparently “had to be so strong in front of the children and the families, not cry or seem upset.” However, he clearly couldn’t hold back anymore on the show.
The judge, who has been involved with the charity since 2003, previously said, “Everyone involved in the charity does an amazing job caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions as well as supporting their families. I’ve formed a very close bond with the people involved with the charity over the years and it has become extremely close to my heart.”
