‘The Masked Singer’ Recap: Hydra Unmasked as Iconic Magicians

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Masked Singer Season 7 returned on Wednesday night, as Hydra was unmasked and revealed to be famous magician duo Penn & Teller. Tonight’s show also featured an onstage stumble from Armadillo, who got back up and finished the performance like a true pro.

Hydra Unmasked as Penn & Teller on ‘The Masked Singer’

Hydra, who represented Team Bad, performed “Sharp Dressed Man” by ZZ Top this week. Guest judge Nicole Byer commented on the fact that they didn’t move much, but she still found them “captivating.” To prove that they could move, they gave a few stomps.

The show shared a Mega Clue, which was a deck of cards made up entirely of Jokers. This led some of the judges to think maybe they were comedians. Robin Thicke suggested they could be South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Jenny McCarthy thought they might be Bert and Ernie.

Hydra was in the bottom two with Armadillo, meaning they had to duel for a spot in the next round. Hydra performed “Two Princes” by Spin Doctors, saying they “got right through Armadillo’s armor.” Sadly, they weren’t victorious, and had to be unmasked.

All of the judges guessed that there was a pair of singers under the mask, but only Byer correctly guessed that it was magician duo Penn & Teller. Their unmasking was initially confusing, as only a rabbit in a hat appeared at first. Penn shared that he let Teller do most of the singing to throw everyone off, since Teller usually doesn’t speak.

Armadillo Falls On Stage During Performance

Armadillo performed “I Fought the Law” by the Bobby Fuller Four. They showed a lot of energy on stage, even giving a few kicks. Eventually, they lost their balance and actually fell over on stage. The judges and audience watched in shock as the dancers helped Armadillo up.

“Sing with me!” Armadillo told the crowd after getting back on their feet. Byer was impressed with how they handled the fall. It’s just another mishap on a season that has already featured quite a few dramatic moments. And that’s not even including the much-anticipated Rudy Giuliani reveal.

The Mega Clue for Armadillo was a motorcycle, which they described as “dead.” Guesses included Gary Busey, Jay Leno, and William H. Macy. After performing “Walkin’ the Dog” by Rufus Thomas in the duel with Hydra, Armadillo made it through to next week’s episode.

The standouts among this group remain Ringmaster and Miss Teddy. Ringmaster sang Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass,” while Miss Teddy showed off a cover of “Tell Me You Love Me” by Demi Lovato and teased that they’re a Grammy winner. Jeong kept up his questionable guesses even after he correctly identified last week’s star Christie Brinkley. He insisted that Ringmaster is Taylor Swift. We’re not so sure.
