Simon Is Quick To Stop This Singer’s Audition But Watch Her Shut Him Up Real Quick Instead [VIDEO]
Musical theater is not quite Simon Cowell’s idea of good music. When Jodi Bird auditioned for season 8 of Britain’s Got Talent singing a song from a ’60s musical, he made that pretty clear. He was quick to halt her audition to request “a better song.” Something that probably would make most auditioning hopeful’s hearts drop. Not Jodi! She was able to rebound, sing another song and make Simon admit, he was too quick to judge. Did Simon finally learn his lesson?
That Was Going To Be A No For Simon But Not Too Fast!
Jodi Bird who was 16 at the time, had a love for performing. Something Simon was admittedly too quick to take away. Choosing to sing “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from the 1964 musical “Funny Girl,” a song choice that ended up more of a statement. We quickly learn that this girl does have an incredible voice. The crowd gets in high spirits but Simon was is not thrilled. Bringing the audition to a halt, with much disapproval from Amanda Holden and the audience, Simon tells her “I can’t listen to this.” The other judges disagree and expressing their enjoyment of the performance. David Walliams mentioned he thought “it’s a shame Simon cut that short.”
Amanda Pleads To Let Jodi Finish
Amanda Holden pleaded to let her finish, a notion supported by the audience. Jodi starts over singing through to the end. Her voice showing more as the song builds. The judges playfully mock Simon for being so hasty as she only shines more. The judges give her high praise for both the song and how she dealt with the hasty reaction from Simon. Holden adding she “s*** all over Simon’s parade.” Her audition earned her the votes to advance and an apology from Simon…kind of. Jodi moved on to the semi-final round, where she received thunderous applause after singing “Let It Go.” She made it to the top 3 but didn’t make the final after judges’ votes favored The Addict Initiative.
Did Simon Cowell Learn His lesson?
Jodi found a love for performing as a little girl. A love that found it’s way to musical theater where she’d appeared in several stage productions. Her musical talent isn’t limited to singing, also being a skilled player of the piano and harp. Her wealth of talents has kept her performing from an early age. She shares a list of her various performances on her Facebook, dating back as early as 2007. She now has a very memorable BGT performance to add to that. She’s not the only person to rebound after getting stopped by Simon, check our video of other contestants that had similar moments down below.
