It’s not often you see talent show judge Simon Cowell crying on television. However, one moment during The X Factor: Celebrity in 2019 proved to be too emotional for him, and he burst into tears during the show.
Cowell’s girlfriend Lauren Silverman was there to comfort him during the vulnerable moment. The judge’s emotional reaction was in response to the show’s charity single, recorded by the contestants.
Simon Cowell Cries on ‘The X Factor: Celebrity’
Host Dermot O’Leary introduced the charity single recorded by the X Factor: Celebrity contestants, to benefit Together for Short Lives and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. The contestants performed Snow Patrol’s “Run” to raise money for the organizations.
The video for the song featured shots of the celebrities recording the track, intercut with footage of children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. The clip ended with all of the contestants standing together performing the song as one collective voice.
After the music video premiered, O’Leary pointed out that both of the charities mentioned are close to Cowell’s heart. The camera cut to Cowell, who was visibly emotional. When O’Leary asked for his comment, he broke down, putting his hand over his eyes and crying.
Fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger rubbed Cowell’s arm to comfort him. His girlfriend Lauren Silverman was there in an instant to wrap her arms around him. O’Leary told him he didn’t need to say anything else to express what the video meant to him.
