Simon Cowell “Not Interested” In ‘American Idol’ Reboot
When you think of American Idol, what image pops into your head? For most people it’s Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell sitting behind a desk. When it was announced that Idol was coming back, Simon was pretty ambivalent about it, sarcastically wishing them luck. He genuinely doesn’t give a crap.
Simon Cowell is the person that made American Idol what it was. Notice that they stopped producing big stars after he left. He went on to start the Got Talents and The X Factor so he knows how to make a successful reality talent show. But when asked if he watched any of the Idol reboot he said,
“I’m genuinely not interested,. I think when we were on it years ago, it was a fun show. It was different, it was kind of naïve, lots of surprises…. I kind of think we’ve been there, I’ve been there, time for something new.”
He’s said in the past that he doesn’t get the idea of singers judging singers. That’s why, if you’ll notice, that isn’t the case on The X Factor. Mel B is on AGT but that isn’t a purely singing show. Either way, it’s got to sting Freemantle that the king wants nothing to do with the show.
