“Super Freaky Girl” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart two days after its release, having gone viral on TikTok before it was even available to stream. The song also topped the iTunes chart and marked the biggest solo debut of all time on both global and U.S. Spotify.
Earlier this week, Minaj took to Twitter to celebrate the fact that “Super Freaky Girl” had spent 10 weeks in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. As the rapper wrote, “Debuted @ #1 & never left. Pretty epic. Thank you.”
The song notably samples the song “Super Freak” by Rick James, which was also sampled in MC Hammer’s 1990 song “U Can’t Touch This.” In September, Minaj released a colorful music video for the song, inspired by Barbie.

Minaj Called Out the Grammys for Placement of the Song
Recently, Minaj called out the Grammys for reportedly moving “Super Freaky Girl” out of the rap category and into the pop category ahead of nominations. Minaj said that this puts the song at a disadvantage, and argued Latto’s “Big Energy” should also be moved.
“Why is the goalpost only ever moved when it’s Nicki?” the rapper said in an Instagram video. “Well, I’ll tell you why. They don’t want the people that they have in the industry to go up against me.”
The nominations for next year’s Grammy Awards will be announced November 15. Unlike “Super Freaky Girl,” another song by Minaj with Lil Baby called “Do We Have a Problem?” has reportedly been placed for consideration in the rap category.
Minaj told E! News that she still wants to attend the Grammys if she’s nominated, saying, “Why wouldn’t I? I would come to cheer on the other people that are nominated. There are a lot of artists that I would love to see win Grammys for the first time next year.”
